Traditional Korean Dining Near The Hyundai Seoul: My Experience at Gobangcha

There are three Gobangchae branches near Yeouido and National Assembly stations.
Whichever is closest, you’re in for a great Korean dining experience!

Gobangchae not only serves traditional Korean full-course meals (hanjeongsik), but also offers a wide selection of traditional Korean liquors.
With its authentic dishes and atmosphere, it’s a great place for foreigners to experience Korean cuisine.

All the seating at Gobangchae is in private rooms, so it’s perfect for a quiet and intimate dining experience.
Whether it’s a special occasion or an important meeting, this place is a great choice.
And yes—even if you’re just two people, you still get your own room! 😊

Private rooms come with individual heating and cooling, and the soundproofing is great—making it easy to enjoy a calm, quiet meal.

But if you really want to enjoy a full Korean dining experience, I definitely recommend going for one of the set menus—they're much more satisfying!

(Sets are available for groups of 3 or more.)

The "Gobang Royal Table" lunch set is 45,000 KRW per person (currently on discount!),
and the dinner version is 59,000 KRW.

Prices may change over time,

Gobangchae offers set menus for both lunch and dinner,

but they also have a la carte options if you’re just in the mood for a light drink.
For a proper meal, there are affordable dishes in the 20,000 KRW range—like cockle bibimbap or hot stone pot rice.

The Gobang Royal Table set for 3 people comes with 7 different side dishes.
They’re called “anju” (dishes typically served with alcohol), but honestly, they’re filling enough to be a full meal on their own!

The Gobang Royal Table set includes 7 delicious dishes, such as:

  • Bullak Jeongol (Spicy Bull and Octopus Hot Pot)

  • Barley Grilled Fish

  • Cold Boiled Pork

  • Grilled Mackerel

  • Assorted Jeon (Korean Pancakes)

  • Sashimi (Raw Fish)

  • Steamed Sweet Shrimp and Octopus

The Gobang Royal Table doesn’t include rice, so you’ll need to order it separately.
Steamed rice is 1,000 KRW, and the hot stone pot rice (sotbap) is 4,000 KRW.
The sotbap comes with lotus root, mushrooms, and other toppings, which is why it’s a bit pricier.

Of course, the hot stone pot rice has the added benefit of becoming crispy "nurungji" (crispy rice) at the bottom, which makes it even more enjoyable! 😊

<Bullak Jeongol (Spicy Beef and Octopus Hot Pot)>

This hot pot was packed with juicy bulgogi and tender octopus,
and the staff even took care of cleaning and preparing the octopus for us!
Once it was ready, we just let it cook in the broth.
The octopus was so big that I mistook it for a squid at first! 😊

<Cold Boiled Pork (Naengsuyuk)>

This dish was perfectly clean with no unpleasant smell,
and it’s great even without rice.
A perfect light snack with drinks, though I wish there was more—it was that good! 😊

<Barley Grilled Fish and Grilled Mackerel>

The reason we ordered rice separately was because of the barley grilled fish!
To be honest, there are plenty of dishes that could be enjoyed without rice,
but I just couldn’t pass up on this barley grilled fish. It was too good to miss!

Both the barley grilled fish and grilled mackerel are absolutely amazing when you eat them over a bowl of steamed white rice.
It’s a heavenly combination! 😊
As a Korean, I can honestly say it's a flavor you just can't pass up.

Barley grilled fish might just be the highlight of Korean cuisine! 😊
If that’s all you’re after, Gobangchae has a special "Barley Grilled Fish Set" on the menu.

<Assorted Jeon (Korean Pancakes)>

With the 3-person Royal Table, we got 3 pieces of each jeon, which was perfect!
There were 4 types of jeon, all seasoned just right.
For a lighter meal, you can also enjoy them with makgeolli for a simple, satisfying snack.

<Flounder Sashimi, Sweet Shrimp, Octopus, and Seaweed>

These are great anju to pair with drinks.
With barley grilled fish, hot pot, jeon, boiled pork, and seafood, you’ve got a perfect meal for both rounds! 😊

Although we skipped the alcohol, we enjoyed some traditional Korean drinks—
Shikhye (sweet rice drink) and maesilcha (plum tea), which were a great way to end the meal!

Located near the National Assembly and Yeouido Stations, Gobangchae offers a clean, private dining experience ideal for foreigners.
They offer both set menus and a la carte options like Barley Grilled Fish, Hot Stone Pot Rice, Abalone Porridge, and Cockle Bibimbap,
With most dishes priced between 20,000 and 30,000 KRW.
